Conroe, Texas – (November 23, 2012) – The Greater Montgomery County Restaurant Association (GMCRA) assisted Conroe ISD in developing a Culinary Arts program at Conroe High School. In turn, staff and students from the Conroe ISD Culinary Arts program recently held a reception for the GMCRA.
Dr. Don Stockton, Superintendent for Conroe ISD is pleased with the new program. “I am excited about the new CISD Culinary Arts facility at Conroe High School. Our culinary arts program will now be able to provide real world experiences for our students, better preparing them for future success,” said Stockton. “I appreciate the Greater Montgomery County Restaurant Association for their support and leadership in helping our shared vision become a reality. With the support of the GMCRA, the culinary arts students will have future opportunities for internships and careers throughout Montgomery County.”
The GMCRA began helping with the creation of the program over a year ago by providing a culinary consultant and assisted with course curriculum. The result was the conversion of an unused area at Conroe High School into a place for the Culinary Arts program. “We are very pleased with the outcome of the Culinary Arts program for CISD,” said Terry McBurney, Principal of Republic Payment Systems and President Elect of the GMCRA. “Students throughout CISD now have access to a state of the art facility and program which will help them build future careers in the hospitality industry.”
In addition, the GMCRA also made a knife donation for the program. “The knife donation to our culinary program cleverly named ‘give a student an edge’ demonstrates the Greater Montgomery County Restaurant Association’s commitment to Conroe’s Culinary Academy,” said Bill J. Prisock, Conroe High School Teacher of Career/Culinary Arts. “Our goal is for this to be a mutually beneficial partnership, and I cannot think of any better link to industry for us. We are all thankful and excited to have GMCRA support.”
