The Woodlands, Texas August 5th, 2014 — The Greater Montgomery County Restaurant Association has named 20-year restaurant-industry veteran Terry McBurney as its new president. McBurney is the principal of Republic Payment Systems, a locally based merchant-services provider to the restaurant industry, as well as founder of The Republic Grille, a Woodlands-inspired dining concept serving Texas and southern dishes in an upscale, casual environment. The Republic Grille is located in the Panther Creek Shopping Center in the heart of The Woodlands. McBurney assumed the president’s role on July 1, 2014, and his aim in his presidency is to expand the association’s membership in order to increase the GMCRA’s ability to give back to the community.
“My goal is first and foremost to increase membership and make locals—be they individuals, businesses or schools—aware of the Texas ProStart program,” McBurney says. The GMCRA played an important part in the introduction of the program to local school districts and has supported its growth since inception. “This accredited program is put forth by local school districts. Several Montgomery County high schools feature full commercial kitchens that allow students to graduate with the skills they need to jump right into the professional workplace.”
Conroe ISD operates a restaurant-caliber commercial kitchen at Conroe High School, which provides students with training in everything from inventory management and health service to budgeting and food preparation. Students who proceed to the upper levels of the Culinary Arts program graduate from high school ready for careers in the industry.
“The Greater Montgomery County Restaurant Association has been instrumental in the growth of the Conroe Independent School District’s Culinary Arts program,” says Dr. Don Stockton, superintendent of Conroe ISD. “CISD students greatly benefit from the leadership of the GMCRA and from the opportunities it offers them.”
The Greater Montgomery County Restaurant Association is affiliated with the Texas Restaurant Association and includes over 100 members from all facets of the food-service and hospitality industries. The organization keeps members informed of key legislative issues that affect them, and during this legislative year, McBurney will organize representatives to advocate at the state and local level.
McBurney invites all local restaurateurs and their business partners to join the Greater Montgomery County Restaurant Association, to help the local industry have a greater impact on the community.
“The food service industry is one of the largest employers in the State of Texas and what better way for individuals in Montgomery County to help our community than to support the GMCRA,” McBurney says.
